Week 5 at KKC De Loper: the children made a treasury from cardboard, pastel chalk, tape, and water. They pushed yarn through the opening at the top, and that completed their long-sought-after treasures.

Yesterday, I visited Primary School KKC de Loper for the fourth time with the Mobile Studio. During the first period of working in the studio with children, one of my goals was to let go of expectations: the children create their own play, and I have to follow. Now I have found there is a balance between letting go and being a participant as well. I create the environment, and the kids react to that. As a consequence, I get excited about what they’re making, and I will be adding to their art if they let me.
And slowly the environment is not only created by me anymore, since the children have appropriated not only the physical van but also the context of it.
This time, the children explored with red beets, water, turmeric, moss, and different kinds of fabric and paper. They discovered, among others, how the beet colors the fabric and paper, and how it gets dry when you roll it in turmeric powder; in that way, it functions as a lollipop, a child showed me.
The moss became decoration on the paper.
